So...we all want friendships but to deny boy/girl friendships seems so unnatural...that's because it is. We should be having friendships with people of the opposite gender. However when you enter into a boy/girl friendship, you need to be aware there is a more serious responsibility than there would be in friendship of the same gender. We have to realize that entering into a friendship with the opposite gender is a serious responsibility.
When we enter this relationship we need to feel fully confident that we can keep the other person's heart guarded from OURSELVES. We need to be looking out for their emotional purity. There are certain aspects of same sex friendships that need to be denied in opposite sex friendships...such as: phone conversations, intimate one-on-one discussions, or long periods of one-on-one time. Don't ever think that you or your friends are incapable of falling into temptations. We are but flesh and the devil is cunning, he knows we are weak...who wants to put their friend at such a risk? Although this can be difficult, it is a great way to show that friend that you are committed to being a true friend who will sacrifice your happiness for the sake of their heart's protection.
This can lead to a lot of ridicule and maybe even the loss of friends...mostly friends of the opposite gender...but God never promised that His path would be easy, He only promised He'd be there.

What is Emotional Purity?
It took me a long time to understand what Emotional Purity is all about. Even now I seem to be learning new things about it...almost daily.
Emotional Purity is something that I believe God wishes for everyone, yet it is so often overlooked. Emotional Purity is about not allowing your emotions into conversations with the opposite gender. When situations arise that cause emotional reactions it is not time to run off and tell someone of the opposite gender all about these problems. It is time to kneel before the Lord and ask Him for help.
So many times when we are feeling down or hurt we want to feel loved or comforted. We want to know we are wanted and needed. A hug and a smile from the opposite gender seems like just the prescription we need! However, during this time, it is of utmost importance to turn to our Heavenly Father. He loves you more than anything in the whole world, more than your friends, or that guy you like.
